Check availability first
Automatic renewal is an optional account feature, separate from a manual renewal purchase. Open the registered domain in your dashboard and check its automatic-renewal settings. If the option has not completed acceptance, renew manually; a saved preference alone is not permission to charge your card.
New saved-card setup requires an active domain with more than 30 days remaining. If your domain expires sooner, complete a manual renewal first.
Authorize a specific limit
- 1An account owner or admin chooses the payment currency and maximum total for one year.
- 2Read and expressly accept the automatic-renewal authorization, then complete card setup through Stripe. Setup saves the payment method; it does not itself purchase a renewal.
- 3Return to the domain and check that Stripe has confirmed setup and automatic renewal is enabled.
Notice, payment and registrar confirmation
Astra posts an account notice approximately 30 days before expiry and checks a current one-year price before an off-session payment attempt approximately 20 days before expiry. The notice must have been recorded for at least seven days before payment. Email reminders are separate: review your account even if email delivery is unavailable or you have declined reminders.
The amount and currency must fit your authorization. A processing payment stays pending; it is not charged again as an unrecorded retry. Payment alone does not mean the domain was renewed. Check the completed status and the registrar-confirmed new expiry date.
If renewal needs attention
If the price exceeds your maximum or the saved card requires authentication, Astra does not silently increase the price limit. For a failed unpaid payment, the automatic invoice must be closed before manual recovery. Turn off automatic renewal, then request a fresh manual quote and complete it before the registry deadline.
An uncertain payment or registrar response remains in reconciliation. Do not purchase another renewal while that status is unresolved. A definitive registrar rejection uses the recorded refund process; the refund is pending until Stripe confirms it. Disputes or partial refunds require support to reconcile the payment and domain.
Turning automatic renewal off
Turning it off stops future automatic payment attempts. It does not reverse an already submitted payment or a completed registrar renewal. Domain renewals are generally final under the registrar’s policy; any discretionary cancellation must be confirmed, not assumed.
